Accessibility statement

What this statement covers

This statement applies to the website at directcomfort.co.uk. It does not cover any third-party service we may link to.

We want every optician to be able to use this site, including anyone using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, voice control, or a browser set to large text.

How accessible this website is

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA.

At the time of writing, these things have been tested and pass:

  • Automated checks. Every page template is checked with axe on each build, at desktop and phone widths. No serious or critical issues are reported.
  • Colour contrast. Every colour pairing used on the site is measured against the AA thresholds, and the measurements are re-run automatically whenever a colour changes. Body text, links, buttons, focus rings and control borders all meet or exceed the required ratio.
  • Keyboard. The whole site can be operated with a keyboard: the skip link, the navigation menu, the mobile menu, the search, the filters, the accordions and the cookie banner. Focus is always visible, and it is never hidden behind the sticky header.
  • Zoom and small screens. The site works from 320 pixels wide upwards and at 200% zoom, with no sideways scrolling.
  • Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, all movement is switched off. Nothing depends on an animation to be readable.
  • Forms. Fields have visible labels, errors are announced and explained in words, and nothing blocks paste or a password manager.

What is not yet done

We would rather tell you this than imply the site has been tested more thoroughly than it has:

  • Safari on iPhone and iPad has not been tested directly. Automated testing runs in Chrome-based browsers only. If you use Safari and something does not work, please tell us — we will treat it as a fault.
  • No manual screen reader pass has been completed yet. Automated tools catch roughly a third of accessibility problems. A manual pass with VoiceOver and NVDA is planned before launch.
  • Product photographs are not yet available. Every product currently shows a placeholder tile. The tile is described to screen readers as a placeholder, so nobody is left guessing, but a real photograph is more useful and will replace it.
  • Some pages still show [[TO CONFIRM]] markers. These are unfinished details, not errors, and they will be gone before launch.

If something does not work

Please tell us. It is the fastest way for us to fix it, and we would rather hear about a problem than have you struggle with it.

Contact Edward Spencer, Account Manager, on 07836 794666 or at orders@directcomfort.co.uk. Tell us the page you were on and what happened, and we will reply and tell you what we are doing about it.

If you would rather place an order by phone than use the website, that is always fine — call the number above.

Enforcement

If you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which advises on rights under the Equality Act 2010.

How this statement was prepared

This statement was prepared by the developer of the site, using the automated and manual test results described above. It is not the result of an independent external audit.
